Since I last updated this thing, I’ve been going snowboarding most days and even learned how to ski.

Yea yea all you snowboarders out there, I am not a traitor and I’m not switching over. I did love learning how to ski and can’t wait to go again. I am so addicted to this sport that I even bought some skis the other day. My new skis are second-hand K2 Miss Demeanor twin tips, they are pretty sweet looking skis. Don’t really know what to do with them yet, I haven’t tried them out. I know I’m slack with this, they’ve sat in my house for almost 2 weeks, I just need to go get some poles and get someone to set them up for me, I have no idea what to do with skis. Should be an interesting adventure next week. I’m going on a skiing date with MJ (classic Irish girl) and we are going to attempt to ski! GOLD.

Whistler life is still a slow pace of mountain adventures, walking Manuve and partying until the wee hours of the morning. Nothing much is changing, the Olympics are going to be the new monster moving into the slow pace of Whistler. It’s going to be interesting to see what all the hype is about. Bring on the Olympic flame on the 5th of Feb, I hope I can see it enter the Village.

Well christmas went well, Santa was very kind to me, brought me some new snowboard boots. And before you ask, NO I did not swap a shoe with anyone, YES that is the way they came in the box and NO I don’t want to change the laces over. Now that we have all of that covered, I take great pleasure in presenting the most amazing DC park boots that are going to keep me nimble on the mountain for the next few years to come.

Now that we have that out-of-the-way I can tell you more about what’s been going on lately. We got a new room-mate, Michele who is a 21-year-old Italian guy. He’s super chilled out and easy to live with. Learning a bit of random Italian and French (from Miguel) as I go along. We have a super fun international household, we get along really well until it’s time for the flat beer pong on a snowboard competitions. They can get pretty full on, so far we’re had one game with no clear winners since we were a little drunk by the end and just decided to skull! So still happy families.

Well the snow has been falling hard and keeping the mountain nice and white, with loads of tree runs to be had in the deep powpow. Me and Kiah have been hitting up the slopes when we’re not sleeping off the night before. Had some amazing days up there so far, really getting into the groove of things. Had a few Fresh Track days on the slopes, great big breakfast at 7.30am and on the slopes by 8.10am. Some of the best days that I’ve had so far. I’ve been doing quite a bit of riding 16 days up there so far, 15 if you don’t count the tourist day ~ went up there just for the 1/2 price food for lunch totally worth it I might add.

With the vast variety in terrain over the two mountains the highest peak chairs are quickly becoming my favourites. 7th Heaven chair(Blackcomb) with Coud 9 ,which is by far the most fun run with massive rollers that give you huge air when you fly down the smooth slope! Oh what fun it is to fly down the mountain at top speed or plow through moguls after a powder day on the Peak chair (Whistler). I don’t think that I could get enough of this place or even go on every run possible.

So far so good, this place is truly in a world of it’s own. Whistler Village is definitely the place to be to meet a hoard of crazy young people from all over the world. There is also no real weekend here, if you’re a local (which I am) you have the opportunity to party cheaper and every night of the week. It’s great here the bars are insane, there is always something on somewhere and there are always free/cheap tickets to the millions of events that are on.

Had my birthday last week and that was an adventure all on it’s own. We had a small gathering in one of the common rooms with some quiet alcoholic refreshments and then headed out for a small boogie. But in other words, we had a sweet party, and then raged on in Merlins for the full moon party, getting ourselves completely smashed. One of the most fun nights that I’ve had is a while.

I’m really enjoying myself here; I almost don’t want to leave. The mountains are giants, nothing like what we have at home; there are massive runs that can take up to 1 hour. Trees everywhere, and pow pow to die for. Tree runs are the way to go, trying to make your way down the mountain and not crash into a tree is somewhat of a new experience. So SICK! Loving every minute of this place. Helps that I have spanky new gear, and a new love of my Skatebanana snowboard.  Another great thing that helps is being able to walk out of my house, across a run and straight into a gondola, then after a day of shredding just ride back down to my house. I love living on the actual mountain!!! Well enough gloating about how great it is here. I just hope that the rest of the season is going to be as good.

Whistler village is super pretty. All the buildings and shops are cose by, there are ample amounts of foon places, bars and restaurants. I’ve had the pleasure of dining at the Amsterdam Cafe and Bar, it’s super cute, with good food and cheap beers. We ate there for dinner and then some nice (and rich) Canadian guy came along paid all of our bill and shouted us on the piss for the night. I think I’m going to like Canadians!  The stumble home wasn’t to bad, as long as you forget that there are cougars (the actual animal), bears and what not in the forest.

First night’s sleep was good the bed is actually comfortable and the morning hangover didn’t come. BONUS.

Experienced my first snow fall today, it’s been snowing all afternoon and since I was to lazy to go outside only found out at 7. It’s looking so good, the cars, buildings and trees had a nice little pile of snow on them. It looks so nice when it’s snowing. At the moment its only -1 but it will get colder and there will be more snow. I’ve been told that I can board straight to the village, how cool is that. I can imagine once the houses fill up and snow arrives there will be jumps and rails set up outside. I can’t wait to buy a new board and get onto the slopes. Which by the way look amazing all covered with trees. It’s definetly going to be an experience that I’m never going to forget.

Well I start work tomorrow, really looking forward to that, bring on the money! So far so good, looking forward to more good times.

I’ve been walking around quite a bit in my brand spanking new sneakers. Ok so they are very me, bright purple and pink (pink not so much me but I compromised). The reason I bring these up is that everywhere I went today people either looked at or commented on my shoes. I have no idea why. I mean yes they are cool shoes, but c’mon Vancouver get with it, this is such an old fashion that it should be normal. I even had people on the street tell me how awesome my shoes were. I think I’ve lost count, but I would say over 20 comments on them. Not that I’m complaining it’s a great conversation starter and makes me feel like less of a loner strolling around these streets.

Oh I bumped into my first Kiwi here, a random lady in a souvenir shop, go figure. I like it though a first Kia ora that I have heard, and probably a last for a while. I’m hoping for some awesome Kiwis in Whistler. I need some friends that I can understand.

Well off to Stanley Park tomorrow apparently it’s a 2 hour walk. Here’s hoping for some good weather. Until next time!

So Las Vegas for 3 days is awesome. There is so much to see, the lights, shows and casinos. I think this was my favourite part of the trip thus far. The weather was amazing, super-hot and sunny the whole time, you learn to love walking into casinos for the love of air conditioners.  Vegas is definitely something different to anything that I’ve ever experienced, there are a huge variety of people that congregate there, from the super old, to the young and skanky. There is something or someone for everyone. The casinos are amazing, they are truly self-contained; everyone off them has multiple bars, restaurants, shops, and huge hotels.  I mean New York New York alone would take a good ½ day to take in. Best part of all, you can drink and smoke anywhere you like. That’s right this city doesn’t have an alcohol ban anywhere. You can wander from casino to casino with drink in hand, or around your neck. There is a huge array of alcoholic beverages in Vegas, my favourite is the Coyote Ugly drinks, and they come in the biggest sizes, some that are almost my height. And they refill for about $9. It’s insane. There are many other Casinos that sell oversized drinks, one that looked very cool was from Paris, in the shape of the Eifel tower. I like how Vegas blends all the world into one place, you can go to their very own Eiffel tower, see the Statue of liberty, visit the Sahara or just hang out in the M&M world (which by the way is four stories, and has anything and everything M&M that you could possibly want or need.)

We did a lot of walking around Vegas, taking in all the sights and sounds. Saw the musical water show at the Bellagio and strolled though MGM to see the Lion Habitat. Even made to Circus Circus to see the carnival setup and the clowns. Yes I found clowns in Vegas and it was awesome. I could go on about Vegas for ever, I truly loved the place, didn’t gamble though not really my thing, but I would come back here in an instant, maybe a girls trip for my 25^th! Loved it, loved it, love it! Vegas Baby!!!

Ah so I am finally on the plane on my way to LA. I thought since I have some time to kill I would write some of this mid-flight so I don’t forget the fun stuff. On the flight yes, not without any disasters mind you. The first plane from Wellington was late, freaking me out a little. Well not really I don’t think that I can freak out to much, but the run/walk from the domestic to international terminal was lest fun thing. Why didn’t anyone tell me that the signs at the airport suck and no matter how hard they try to sign post it it’s still impossible to find where you need to go especially when the sign next to your flight on the monitors says “Go to security NOW!!” I mean what do they expect people to wander on over.

Well I made it through security, where a lovely lady explained that my bags were going to get swabbed and tested for any traces of explosives. I mean are they for real? I guess so. Good thing that I haven’t been making any explosives EVER. So I was clean as a whistle. Through security, 10min to boarding call, what do I do, buy jaeger meihster  and smokes. Oh no she didn’t, oh yes, yes I did.

So the flight was pretty painless, 12 hours of movies (transformers 2, hang over and some chick flick I’d like to forget), trying to sleep and laughing at the obviously drunk girl strolling through the aisles while the flight attendant is trying to convince her quietly to take her seat. I mean what would you expect? it’s pretty much a free open bar. It was quite entertaining and to think it was only 10pm. All class! Lets see what happens once I go through customs. 

So I have like I said above survived all of my leaving events. I had a blast, catching up with all of my friends, looking after some of them and having some of them look after me. There were many events to be had, rockband, sing star, dinners, lunches and a few drinks. So by a few drinks, Scrumpy Hands and the Tray of Death!

Now with that behind me all I need to do is pack. I think that I’ve bought everything that I need and now I just need to jam everything into the suitcase sit on it and zip the damn thing up. Nah I don’t think that it will be quite that bad, thinking of taking the minimalistic approach.  Only a couple of days to go and I’m feeling good about this. Lets hope that everything goes smoothly.

3 weeks to go until I fly out, in the mean time I think I’ve done what I need to do and its time for yet another trip up the mountain!!!!
